Streetlight at Independence Dr @ Beverley Rd
Why is the light here so poorly planned? 1. It's too long a wait for students/families attending Baker and other neighborhood children to safely cross at all hours of day - and night. And there's only crossing guards there for approx. 20-25 minutes during mornings and afternoons. 2. There should be a count down mechanism - similar to ones used around Coolidge Corner and Devotion School - where children can see how many seconds they have left to cross safely. 3. There need to be more posted speed limit signs, "children crossing" signs and more police presence. This is a major disaster waiting to happen... this is a HIGH traffic area with thousands of cars using this road Independence/Grove from Boston to Brookline and back daily. There is abuse of speeding laws constantly. I have seen both children and the crossing guards almost get hit by cars numerous times by drivers running the red lights or speeding up thru yellow ones. This neighborhood needs more effective crossing lights/marked cross walks all over but most especially at this intersection used by hundreds of Baker students daily.
